Category 7
Category 7 is currently the highest performance, standards compliant copper outlet solution available on the market. It provides a performance platform for up to 600MHz network technologies.
Even though Category 7 has been ratified, the price, the stringent installation requirements and size of components has lead the market to lean towards the more cost effective Cat6a.
Benefits
- Offers a very long term future proofed solution.
- Performance to 10Gb/s and beyond, far exceeding all performance requirements for 10GBASE-T.
- Cable sharing - Shielded design and 1-, 2- and 4-pair outlet and plug modularity allow the simultaneous support of multiple applications over a single cable, administered in a single outlet.
Disadvantages
- Very expensive emerging technology.
- Larger diameter requires comprehensive trunking / containment and stringent bend radii limits.
- Single outlet requires an entire single gang faceplate making it awkward for office wall mounted outlets.
